A Little About Me
In Case You Were Wondering
northoftheborder is the blog (short for weblog) of Brad Daily, heretofor known as I, me or some other personal pronoun. I am a man of many hats at the moment, from my nine to fiver as the Communications Director for the Canadian Convention of Southern Baptists*, to my weekend/late night gig running bradleyboy productions, a small multimedia company I run some freelance work through when I have a chance.
So what is this? It's a place to try out different techniques in web design and usability, starting from the ground up with XHTML and CSS. It also acts as a auxilary storage shed for my head, seeing as it is usually a little too full of stuff and needs purging from time to time. Of course, it also is a great way for people to keep up and interact with me all over the place. So enjoy...
* Although I am employed by the Canadian Convention of Southern Baptists, this site or the opinions expressed within it are not affiliated or endorsed by the CCSB. It is all my fault...
Frequently Asked Questions
Are you available for contract work? On a limited basis, yes. Never hesitate to contact me about an upcoming project you think I could help with. Head over to bradleyboy productions to find out more and contact me.
Where can I see other projects you have worked on? I have a portfolio over at bradleyboy productions that shows some of my recent work.
Why do you love Apple and hate Microsoft? It may seem that way, but isn't true. I prefer to use Macs, but recognize that to be successful in my field I need to have a strong grasp of both OS's (and I should probably start brushing up on some Linux, too).
What is with the iTunes links? As an iTunes affiliate, I provide links so that you may be reminded of the greatness of the ITMS. Click through one of my links, buy a song, I get a nickel.
What tools do you use in your design work? I prefer Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator for graphics work. I use Macromedia Dreamweaver and BBEdit for source code editing and Macromedia Flash for interactive work. I also use Transmit for FTP. I will say that tools do not make the man, and having these tools does not automatically give you what you need to do great work.
Where do you get those great photos? istockphoto.com. Great resource for stock photos on a budget. Except for the photo on this page, which is credited to world class photog Gary Daily.
Do you speak French? Unfortunately no, although if you e-mail me in French, I have a in house translator available. But to my fellow Montrealers, I'm working on it!
Can I use this site's design for something I am working on? Nope. Take a look under the hood for tips on CSS and XHTML, but please don't copy this design.
